I am LB (aka Lori B, bee, B). I live in Baltimore, MD with my partner Karen and our 2 cats, Nikkyo and Buster. I am 54 years old. The rest of my family lives in Florida, but I never have. I miss them a lot. Karen and I have been together since February 4th, 2000, and got married in Las Vegas on February 7th, 2004 surrounded by our family and friends. It was a magical day. On February 4th, 2013, we got legally married in Baltimore, MD! Karen is an amazing person. Smart, funny, loving, caring, perfectly irreverent, and the most beautiful person I have ever seen. She is a also professional do-gooder (aka social worker), and spends a lot of time making the world a better place for her clients, friends, random strangers, and me!

On June 17th, 2006, my cat Shiki died. She was my best friend and constant companion since 1992. We met in a place that I moved into on Mission St. in San Francisco where she had been abandoned. I miss her very much. Shortly before our move to Baltimore, we lost our 2 other cats, Marley and Kito, who were friends to Karen for many years, and friends to me for a long time too.

About a month after Shiki died, our neighbors brought over a stray kitten that they were taking care of. I fell instantly in love. Karen and I decided to keep her. Her name is Nikkyo, which means ‘second technique’ in Japanese, because it is my favorite martial arts move and also because Nikkyo is my second cat. One year later, our neighbors were back with another stray kitten, Buster.

For fun, I like to go to the water, learn about computers and web development, do martial arts, chill out, play video games, and sometimes hang out with other people. I am very social for an antisocial person. I like angry white boy music and Stephen King books.

I am a web developer and own a business called BeeDragon LLC. I have been learning about web design and development since 1995, mostly through trial, error, reverse engineering, and plagiarism.

In December of 2004, I became a switcher; a complete convert from windows to mac. I went from a custom P4 3G/1G super pc to a 12″ G4 1.33G/768M powerbook, and never looked back.

In March of 2005, I found out that I am autistic after a lifetime of misdiagnoses and searching for ‘what is wrong with me’. It is good to finally know. It is great to finally have a name for it. It is amazing to find out that I am not alone. It sucks that there is no way to fix it.

In the years since I wrote that last sentence, I have come to learn that many autistic people do not want to fix it. They are happy that they are the way they are, and wouldn’t have it any other way. I feel the same way in that I would not want to be a different person from who I am, which I certainly would be if I had a ‘neurotypical’ brain. I do still wish that things were easier, and that I could have a more predictable life and an easier time socializing with people.

About LoriB.me

Back to: About LB

I created LBnuke (former name of this site) in 2003 as an experiment with PostNuke, a PHP/MySQL content management system. It was my first experience with PHP and MySQL, and also how I got the idea for my not so creative original site name. Since then, it has been through 5 designs, 5 servers, many updates and code tweaks, and lots of added (and subtracted) features. It is a work in progress.

The number of visitors and site members has been growing steadily, with a major increase since March 2005, when I started writing about autism.

In August, 2006, I converted this site from PostNuke to WordPress after being inspired at the first in San Francisco.

On February 13th, 2011, I changed the name of this site from LBnuke to LoriB.me. I had been thinking of changing the name for a few years. I am glad that I did.

The original purpose of this site was to be my online playground; a place to experiment with web technology and write about whatever I felt like. Since I found out that I am autistic there is a second purpose, which is to help other un/misdiagnosed autistic people to finally find out why they are ‘different’, and to know that they are not alone. Maybe they will find this site in a random google someday. You wouldn’t believe some of the google searches that lead people here!

Thank you for visiting LoriB.me 🙂
