Good Things

I am finally feeling better! It’s only been a few days, but I am hoping it will last. So far, I haven’t had any trouble breathing at all with the new old meds. It has been easier to think, easier to work, easier to play. Still can’t read, but maybe that will come later.

Last night, I did something that I haven’t done in a really long time. I actually called people to see if they wanted to go out. K and A and R were going to see AC/Dshe in the city (San Francisco). I didn’t want to go because the show didn’t start until 11pm and I thought I probably wouldn’t want to be out in the city that late.

A new girl bar called Velvet just opened in our neighborhood. Last night was opening night and I really wanted to check it out. Me and K did a walk by earlier in the day and one of the owners was there working on the place. He was really nice and gave us a tour of the inside. It looked pretty cool. Not quite finished, but the guy was working pretty hard, so maybe it was by night time. He said he grew up in the area and really wanted to do something for the women’s community, especially since Mills College was so close by. Kind of shocking, but cool. It won’t have any competition, that’s for sure!

I called Susan and she picked me up at around 10:00. We drove by the bar and there were probably a couple of hundred people outside! Crazy. There was no way we would get in. The place wasn’t very big. That was a bummer, but we went over to Lakeshore and got $2 Pabst Blue Ribbons at Kingman’s Lucky Lounge instead. Apparently, they have those all the time. I like that place. It is very red inside with comfortable furniture and nice lighting.

After that, we went across the street to The Alley, a very cool piano bar. There was a bunch of people sitting around the piano bar. Rod Dribble was playing. He has been playing there almost forever. Everyone who sang was really good, especially this one lady who sang the yodeling song from The Sound of Music. It was really nice to go out and to hang out with Susan. I was bummed about not getting into the bar, but I probably ended up having a better time anyway because I can’t stand crowded places and Velvet was probably wall to wall people. Earlier, the guy said they weren’t even going to have any seating for opening night because the were expecting so many people. We did another drive by on the way home and the lines were still almost as long. Me and K will go check it out another night.

Right now, I am cooking chili. Cooking is another thing I can’t remember the last time I did. It is very exciting to feel so much better after such a long time of feeling bad. I hope it stays this way and the meds don’t make me stop breathing. So far, so good.

Oops… never did post this yesterday. Must have gotten sidetracked. Another good thing happened today, so maybe I just wasn’t finished.

I really wanted to go to the Web 2.0 conference, but there was no way I could afford any of the programs, even with K’s 40% educational organization discount. I was thinking of buying a ticket to the expo for $100, but I didn’t have to. Today I got an email addressed to “Colleague” with a discount code to get into the expo for free. Woo hoo! The discount code is webex07mk37 for anyone interested.

The Expo Pass Includes:

  • Entrance to the Expo Hall
  • All networking events held in the Expo Hall
  • Access to all Keynote and Launch Pad presentations
  • Access to all Products & Services track sessions
  • Birds of a Feather sessions (BoFs)

Not quite so easy to think or work today as yesterday, but still feeling much better than before. Trying to have hope that I may still be able to go on our trip. I am not going to decide until this weekend.
