Long day today. Exhausted. Got a bunch of maps at AAA and K planned us yet another alternative route in case the weather is bad, which it looks like it will be. K posted the exciting details on our site: http://karenandlori.com/2011/03/19/stormy-weather/
When I was in grade school, kids used to call me “44” because the big serial killer of the moment (1976-77) was David Berkowitz, aka “Son of Sam”, aka the “.44 Caliber Killer”. For those of you missing the connection, my last name is Berkowitz. My birthday just passed on January 28th and I turned 44. For obvious reasons, this has reminded me of my old nickname. It was one of the nicest nicknames I had during grade school. One other observation that I have had concerning my birthday is that it is pretty cool to turn 44 in ’11. Not sure why.
I had a great birthday. Highlights of the day were Macworld 2011 (regardless of the iPad-centricity), birthday cake with a bee on it, and champagne 🙂 (Thank you K!)
The night before my birthday, Karen was kind enough to join me at an HTML5 meetup in San Francisco where Paul Irish, an awesome front-end development genius, was speaking about HTML5 Boilerplate, “A rock-solid default for HTML5 awesome”. If you are very sad that you missed it and would like to see it now, here it is!
I have been very distracted lately! Too many things going on and I can not focus on any of them. Luckily, I have had no problem focusing on distractions. I would like to give recognition to the distractions that have proven to be most entertaining in the ‘First (and possibly last) Annual Distraction Awards’.
Today I found FFFFOUND! FFFFOUND! is an invitation-only web image-bookmarking service that also dynamically suggests other images that may be of interest to the user based on their tastes and interests. It was hard to get away from it even long enough to post this.
There were a few things that made FFFFOUND! stand out from other image-bookmarking services. The first was the quality and interestingness of the images. I am pretty sure this is due to the invitation-only nature of the site. My favorite thing about the site is that there is no text other than the linked title of the page containing the original image and the usernames of other folks who have also bookmarked the image.
When viewing an image, thumbnails of other images that may be of interest are shown below. There are no descriptions or comments about any of the images. The experience of using the site encourages a very ‘free association’ style of browsing. Seriously mesmerizing.
Me and K are now officially crazy cat ladies. It happened just like last time. The neighbors came over with a stray kitten that was living in the yard next door. They know who the suckers are! The mother cat is Nikkyo’s grandma. We almost resisted this time. We told them we couldn’t do it, but the little fuzzy seed had been planted. K had already fallen in love and could not stop thinking about it. A couple of days later, we had 4 cats. It is almost a year since Shiki died. Nikkyo’s first birthday is in 2 days. Wasn’t it time for a new kitten? Apparently so. This is the last one! Really. Welcome Buster 🙂
The other day, K went around taking pictures of the many duct taped things in our house. Even though it is kind of pathetic, it also cracked me up to see them all at once. Sometimes you just have to laugh. I added a doorbell shot to the collection. Here are the very exciting photos…
Welcome to our house!
Please ring the doorbell before it falls off.
Me and K went to Ottawa for Passover this year to visit K’s family. Lorena came too and their folks met us there. We stayed with Heather and Bruce, K and L’s cousins, and their children Adam and Max. Their other cousins Mark and Tina, and their 2 daughters, Leah and Omi, came from Toronto and stayed there too. It was a full house! K and L’s folks stayed with Rob and Ros who live nearby. Rob is K’s mom’s brother. Got all that?
Karen and I just got back from New Orleans. We were there for 5 days to visit Blanca and celebrate Mardi Gras. It was so nice to see B and Dexter and to meet Sebastian, B’s cat that she got from the rescue shelter. I have always been curious about New Orleans and about Mardi Gras. Both me and K were not prepared for what we found there.
